Training Program in
Dairy Products Processing
From 05th to 10th April, 2010
At The Animal Husbandry In-service Training Institute

INTRODUCTION:
Agribusiness Support Fund (ASF) is a not-for-profit Company, established by the Ministry of Food Agriculture & Livestock (MINFAL) and supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the Agribusiness Development & Diversification Project (ADDP). ASF extends its support in the shape of matching grants (free money) to agribusiness concerns in the Horticulture and Livestock sectors.

Under its Capacity Building program, ASF provides financial support to individuals as well as enterprises either engaged in consultancy / advisory businesses or running their existing agribusinesses, by sharing upto 50% of the cost of participation in training programs held within and outside Pakistan.

BACK-GROUND:
Pakistan can be listed among the leading countries of the world in terms of milk production. Livestock / Dairy farming is considered among the most attractive businesses in the country these days having good profit making potential. One can easily observe huge investment being made in the sector by business giants in the country. Business diversification towards dairy business is also seen from sectors like textile, cement, garments, etc. However, it is a fact that Pakistan has acute shortage of trained & skilled personnel for meeting the rising demand of this high potential sector.

ASF – AHITI COLLABORATION:
Keeping this in view, ASF has undertaken initiative of educating as well as preparing local experts for the high rising demand of the livestock & dairy sector. For this purpose, ASF has joined hands with the Animal Husbandry In-service Training Institute (AHITI), Peshawar in organizing a one-week residential training program in Dairy Products Processing.

PROGRAM DETAIL:
The purpose of this program is to disseminate the know-how and techniques among the relevant people. In this training program, the selected participants will be given theoretical & practical training by faculty members on different aspects followed by field visits. Program details are as follows:

Theory/lectures, practical demonstration and field visits.

Anyone interested and has relevant background.

The program will comprise of lectures, practical work and field visits. Following topics will be covered during the training program:

  • Introduction to Dairy Technology
  • Feeding regime of lactating cow & buffalo
  • Feeding factors affecting production of milk
  • Composition of milk
  • Milk hygiene & production of quality milk
  • Factors affecting quality of milk
  • Platform tests
  • Pasteurization
  • Cheese and yogurt making and cream separation
  • Milk production setups
  • Milk collection centers and their management
  • Dairy farm management

COURSE FEE:
Total course fee being charged by the Institute for complete training program from each participant comes to Rs. 7,000/-. This would cover the course fee, cost of course material, accommodation, meals, exposure visits and certificates.

As part of its financial support, ASF shall share 50% of the course fee with all selected participants in shape of grants. As a result each participant shall pay Rs. 3,500/- only, for the complete program, in advance. In addition to that, ASF shall also provide travel allowance to participants coming from other cities as per the following details:

  • Travel allowance of Rs. 1,000/- to participants coming from other cities, within NWFP region.
  • Travel allowance of Rs. 3,000/- to participants coming from other provinces.
  • No allowance shall be paid to participants from Peshawar.

Total seats available for the program are 25. In case ASF does not receive the required number of applications, program will be cancelled and drafts will be returned to the candidates.

Modalities of ASF Grant Support:

  • ASF grants will only be made available to participants short-listed by the AHITI and ASF.
  • All selected participants will be required to fill the prescribed ASF Grant Application forms, available with AHITI.
  • Application forms need to be submitted before the commencement of the training program along with a copy of CNIC.
  • All selected participants will sign a standard authority letter in favour of AHITI to further sign a grant contract with ASF on their behalf.
  • Disbursement of grant will be made either by cross cheque in favour of participants or cash, by the AHITI on the last day of the training program.
